If run in 32-bit mode, Pixstat can acquire pictures from a scanner via
the standard interface Twain. Since there is no free euqivalent in 64 bits, this
function is not available in 64-bit mode. If a Twain-compatible
scanner is correctly installed, then its name it will appear when selecting
Choose Twain source in the
Options menu. Once the scanner has been chosen, the scan
process itself can be started by selecting
Scan picture in the File menu or by clicking on
the corresponding
button.
For best contrast and to avoid shading, scanning in transparency can usually be recommanded for physical objects. This, however, cannot be done with any scanner, only with a scanner where the illumination of the object can be from either above or below (like for scanning also diapositives).
The user can choose to scan in colours, in grey tones or in black and white. In the first case (colour picture), colour settings and the threshold can be chosen later in Pixstat. In the second case (grey scale), the threshold can still be chosen later. In the last case, all choices are done while scanning and can no longer be changed (but the files produced are smaller).
The scanned pictures are first stored in a temporary bitmap file (BMP). The user can then save it under an appropriate file name and format.
