The file menu

The file menu of Hemisfer shows the following elements, which have the same effect as some of the buttons of the main interface:

button parameters Load parameters: Load one or several parameter file(s). These can be either Hemisfer's own INI parameter files or HVS files from Delta-T HemiView. The image indicated in a parameter file is then loaded along with its preset parameters.
button picture Load picture(s): load one or several picture file(s). Note that the zenith is set in the centre and the horizon to the closest border of the picture when it is loaded directly (i.e. not over a parameter file). The exception is when loading a new picture of exactly the same size as the previous one: then it is assumed that the horizon remains at the same position.
save Save parameters: save parameters into an INI parameter file.
threshold Calculate threshold: to distinguish between the canopy and the sky, this estimates a light threshold according to the algorithm described by Nobis & Hunziker (2005). There are several threshold options which affect how the calculations are done (as long as the threshold is set to a fixed value, the option to calculate it is deactivated).
analysis Analyse picture: runs the picture analysis, either interactively or as a batch (if several parameter files or pictures have been selected). The leaf area index can be calculated in Hemisfer according to different analysis methods, along with a mean foliage angle and even the clumping index of the canopy. If necessary, the threshold is calculated prior to each analysis.
LAI results View results: LAI: After the analysis of a picture, the results are written into a results file. Choosing this option loads this file into a software to view and/or edit it. Which software is used depends on the extension of the file name and on the corresponding registrations on a particular computer.
light results View results: light regime: After the analysis of a picture, the results are written into a results file. Choosing this option loads this file into a software to view and/or edit it. Which software is used depends on the extension of the file name and on the corresponding registrations on a particular computer.
button exit Exit: to exit the Hemisfer software.
